This summer, a developer asked me to restart a Continuous Integration server so he could release a change to a build radiator app he'd written. This took down CI for 20 minutes on a very busy software project. I got to thinking: why wouldn't this work in a browser?
So after discovering the joys of the Single Origin policy in browsers, I wrote a build status application that polls Hudson and updates the build results on screen. No project information is passed back to the server. It puts broken builds at the top of the screen so you can always see trouble at a glance.
What's next? We'll be adding support for other CI servers soon (we're submitting patches to open source products, and we can do plugins for the commercial products. I also want to make it work for the 10% of men who are red-green colour blind.
My friend Chris (you can see it in use at his company in the photo) also had an itch to scratch: how long is my build, and how does it compare to other projects? He's written some code that lets you anonymously publish your vital statistics and see how everybody else does it. We decided to merge projects so that users of this tool can choose to upload their stats. We'll be adding this feature as soon as we can.
